Influenza (“flu”) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by flu viruses. Each year a flu vaccine (flu shot or nasal spray) is made that works well to stop the spread of seasonal flu. Getting vaccinated each year is the best way to protect yourself from seasonal flu. Seasonal Flu is different from the H1N1 Flu (previously swine flu). Construction Update The Des Moines campus of the Central Iowa Health Care System is undergoing major construction projects intended to improve the delivery of care to Veterans. For the safety and convenience of our Veterans and visitors, we recommend using the shuttle service to and from the Des Moines campus parking lots. Suicide Prevention Lifeline
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline has been enhanced to provide a new service for Veterans in crisis. Veterans will be connected immediately to VA Suicide prevention and mental health service professionals by calling 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and pressing 1.
