Successful Emergency Department Open House

Thank you to everyone who made the July 14th Emergency Department Open House and Summer Media Engagement Event a success!  The packed gathering kicked off with local VA leadership remarks and the Downtown Des Moines Chamber assisting with the ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by tours of the beautiful new space, refreshments, and the opportunity to talk with our amazing staff.  We had great community support for the event as well – with all Congressional offices sending representation; the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs Commission, Iowa Veterans Home, and Iowa Veterans Council showing support; as well as local hospital, ambulance, military, and Veteran Service Organizations joining us to celebrate.  BBS Architecture/Engineers who assisted with this design also showed their support and the entire event was covered by many news stations including the Des Moines Register and Iowa Public Radio, who shared high praise for the space and staff serving emergent patient needs.  We are still on track to officially starting seeing Veterans in the new ED on August 25th!
